Malcor III was the third planet in the Malcor system, and it was the homeworld of the Malcorians, located over 2,000 light years from Earth. The planet was led by a chancellor.

The nearest star system to Malcor III was the Garth system, which was less than a light year away.

The planet made First Contact with the Federation prematurely when William T. Riker, on a mission to investigate the species, was revealed as an alien. Avel Durken was the planet's chancellor at this time. (TNG: "First Contact")

It was likely that the planet has a 29-hour day.
In the The Nitpicker's Guide for Next Generation Trekkers, Volume II (p. 278), author Phil Farrand states that the planet was named after fan Karen P. Malcor.
According to the Star Trek: Star Charts, on page 47, Malcor was located in the Mu Ceti star system. This system was located in the Alpha Quadrant.
