Malcor III was the third planet in the Malcor system, and it was the homeworld of the Malcorians, located over 2,000 light years from Earth. The planet was led by a chancellor.

The nearest star system to Malcor III was the Garth system.

The planet made First Contact with the Federation prematurely when William T. Riker, on a mission to investigate the species, was revealed as an alien. Avel Durken was the planet's chancellor at this time. (TNG: "First Contact")

In the The Nitpicker's Guide for Next Generation Trekkers, Volume II (p. 278), author Phil Farrand stated that the planet was named after fan Karen P. Malcor.
According to the Star Trek: Star Charts (pg. 47), the Malcor system was in or near Federation space, in the Alpha Quadrant. This system, also known as Mu Ceti, was a binary star system. Primary was a Class F star with a magnitude of +3, which was ten times brighter than Sol. Secondary was a Class F star. This system was the site of a battle prior to 2378.
