Mark A. Mangini (born 31 August 1956; age 67) is a Hollywood sound engineer who earned an Academy Award nomination in the Best Effects, Sound Effects Editing category as sound supervisor on Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. He had previously edited the additional dialogue recording for Star Trek: The Motion Picture and went on to do the sound effects for Star Trek V: The Final Frontier. He also designed the Mind Meld Soundscape for 2009's Star Trek with Mark Binder.

Mangini also composed the song "I Hate You" for The Voyage Home, with lyrics by Kirk Randolph Thatcher, performed by the makeshift punk band "Edge of Etiquette".

Star Trek: The Motion Picture was Mangini's first motion picture production, having already worked for Hanna-Barbera Studios on such animated programs as Scooby-Doo, Where Are You? and The Flintstone Comedy Hour. His early film sound effects credits include The Final Countdown, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and Poltergeist.

Like actors Robert Picardo and Dick Miller and composer Jerry Goldsmith, Mangini frequently works with director Joe Dante. Mangini was the supervising sound editor for such Dante films as Gremlins (1984), Innerspace (1987), Gremlins 2: The New Batch (1990), Matinee (1993), Small Soldiers (1998) and Looney Tunes: Back in Action. He has also supervised sound editing on Beauty and the Beast (1991), Aladdin (1992), and The Lion King. His work on Aladdin earned him his second Academy Award nomination. He received his third and most recent Academy Award nomination for The Fifth Element (1997).

After Star Trek IV, Mangini worked again with director Leonard Nimoy on the films 3 Men and a Baby and The Good Mother. Mangini's subsequent film credits include The Hitcher, Alien Nation, RoboCop 2 (which featured John Glover, Roger Aaron Brown, Gabriel Damon, Mark Rolston, Peter Weller, Jeff McCarthy, Phil Rubenstein, Robert DoQui, Tzi Ma, and Bill Bolender), Cool Runnings, Die Hard with a Vengeance (1995), Phenomenon (which features Brent Spiner), Space Jam, Conspiracy Theory (1997, starring Patrick Stewart), Lethal Weapon 4, The Green Mile (featuring James Cromwell and William Sadler), and Cats & Dogs.

Mangini and fellow "Mind Meld Soundscape" designer have worked together on many films since 2003, including the aforementioned Looney Tunes: Back in Action and Beauty Shop (starring Alfre Woodard). They have also collaborated with Star Trek: The Motion Picture Supervising Sound Editor Richard L. Anderson on such films as Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, Shark Tale, Blades of Glory, and The Spiderwick Chronicles. Binder, Mangini, and Anderson received a Golden Reel Award nomination from the Motion Picture Sound Editors for their work on Shark Tale.

In 2016, Mangini won the Academy Award for Best Sound Editing for his work on Mad Max: Fury Road (starring Tom Hardy). [1] In 2022, he won his second Academy Award for Best Sound for his work on the science fiction epic Dune. [2]
