Mark IV bridge simulator explosion

Pyrotechnics in use in the simulator

The Mark IV bridge simulator was a bridge simulator at Starfleet Academy's Starfleet Training Command in the 23rd century. This simulator, located on the second level of a building, was in room #216. The simulator was listed with other simulators on a directory placard.

In 2285, this simulator was a mock-up of a bridge for a Enterprise-class starship for use by Starfleet cadets in Starfleet Academy training missions, such as the Kobayashi Maru scenario.

Captain Spock had a class of cadets, under the command of Saavik, make use of the simulator (playing the role of the USS Enterprise), joined by Starfleet officers Leonard McCoy, Hikaru Sulu, Uhura, and Montgomery Scott. Admiral James T. Kirk also visited the simulator to watch the cadets' performance on the Kobayashi Maru scenario. (Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan)

McCoy, no smoking

"No smoking" sign visible

The simulator set was obviously a reuse of the Enterprise bridge in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. The only noticeable difference is the lack of the "No Smoking" sign on the "real" Enterprise bridge as seen throughout the rest of the movie.
The simulator (or one very much like it) is used in the Star Trek: Starfleet Academy computer game, however, the ship designation and configuration changes from mission to mission.
The placard was sold on It's A Wrap! sale and auction for US$31.99. [1]
