Mary Warren was a Starfleet anthropologist, who was studying the Mintakans, a civilization on the planet Mintaka III.
When a power overload caused an explosion inside the holographicaly hidden observation port, Dr. Mary Warren and Dr. Barron were seriously injured. A third team member, a young man named Palmer, was dazed in the blast and wandered away from the site.
An away team from the Enterprise-D was sent down for medical purposes and was seen by the underdeveloped Mintakans, resulting in the Mintakans mistaking Captain Picard for a god. Dr. Warren later died from the wounds sustained from the power overload explosion. Her death proved to Nuria that Picard's people were mortal. (TNG: "Who Watches The Watchers")
