Meklinite

Meklinite is a substance sometimes found within asteroids, which is known to interfere with ships’ sensor scans. The substance was found in high quantities in an asteroid belt near the Alpha Omicron system, which may explain why the spaceborne creatures found to be living within the belt (such as "Junior") were not previously detected.
