This page describes one of Memory Alpha's policies and guidelines.
Please read through the policy below to familiarize yourself with our common practices and rules.
If you have any questions, suggestions, or complaints, please post them on the talk page.

In order to provide the most accurate and up-to-date information, Memory Alpha contains details about all Star Trek episodes that have been broadcast in the United States at their normal nationwide slot and all Star Trek films that have been released in the United States.

Memory Alpha contains full spoilers for all aired episodes and released films. Fair warnings are placed on several introductory pages, and individual warnings are not required in individual articles.

Wikipedia has this to say about spoilers:

A spoiler is a summary or description of a narrative (or part of a narrative) that relates plot elements not revealed early in the narrative itself. Moreover, because enjoyment of the plot depends on dramatic tension and suspense, this early revelation of plot elements "spoils" the enjoyment that consumers of the narrative would otherwise have experienced.

Star Trek especially presents a difficult situation due to its worldwide popularity. Although episodes are broadcast on a regular schedule in the United States and Canada, fans elsewhere may have to wait months or even years before they will be able to see the same episode. And so, while many fans are eagerly discussing the latest episode of Enterprise, other viewers must either carefully avoid spoilers or lose any benefit of surprise once they finally get to see the episode.

Information about upcoming movies (not yet released in theaters) and unaired episodes may not be included in a Memory Alpha page, aside from official cast and production information released by Paramount, CBS, or credible news sources. Moreover, this information can only be added to pages told from a "real world" point of view; pages told from an in-universe perspective cannot contain any information from a movie or episode that has yet to be released. Spoilers that violate this policy may be deleted by any user.
