This page describes one of Memory Alpha's policies and guidelines.
Please read through the policy below to familiarize yourself with our common practices and rules.
If you have any questions, suggestions, or complaints, please post them on the talk page.

No offensive usernames

The sole purpose of usernames is for logging in and for facilitating communication between archivists. Offensive or inflammatory usernames are not permitted on Memory Alpha, and will be banned from further use. This policy is admittedly arbitrary, but is a right reserved by the administrators to ensure harmonious collaboration between members.

No usernames similar to others

Additionally, to avoid confusion do not use a username similar to those of already existing users. If your username is considered too similar to an existing one, you may be asked to create a different one.

Users who register names that are designed to impersonate other members may be banned immediately, and the IP block may be left in place (see Bans and Blocks).

Custom signatures

The wiki software allows you to use a signature different from your username. It is currently being discussed if, and to what extent, this feature should be used (see Memory Alpha talk: Username). However, under no circumstances are images to be used in signatures.
