Mercury is a chemical element, number 80 on the periodic table, a member of the transition metals. By the 24th century, this element would also be found to belong to the Gamma series. This element was pictured on a periodic table in the ship's schoolroom aboard the USS Enterprise-D. (TNG:"Rascals")
- The chart in the schoolroom was a piece of background signage which contained numerous irregularities and in-jokes. It listed this element with its symbol "Hg," but named it "Redskinium" and numbered it 92, which conflicts with existing element uranium (U).
