Fritz and Frankenstein

Frankenstein, shown on movie night aboard NX-01

Movie night was a recreational opportunity to come together and watch a film.

Enterprise[]

Aboard Enterprise NX-01, the mess hall periodically became a movie hall for movie night playing films for the crew. Regular attendees included Doctor Phlox (who went for the Human reactions rather than the movie), Trip Tucker, T'Pol (after some coaxing from Captain Archer and Trip Tucker), and Cutler. (ENT: "Dear Doctor", et al.) Malcolm Reed, Hoshi Sato, and Travis Mayweather were also known to have attended the films on occasion. (ENT: "Cold Front")

A line from ENT: "Horizon" suggests that movie night was organized with the explicit consent of Chef for use of the mess.

At first, movie night was every Tuesday. (ENT: "The Catwalk") At some point, Tucker planned to hold a movie night every night. However, by 2154 movie night was again a weekly event, though on Monday. (ENT: "Horizon", "Hatchery")

The motion picture library in the ship's database had fifty thousand titles to choose from, which could be divided up into genres such as adventure, comedy, horror, musical, science fiction, thriller, and western. (ENT: "Cold Front", "Cogenitor")

Films known to have been shown on movie night include:

Trip Tucker intended to show Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein on movie night, but it is unknown whether he was successful in doing so. (ENT: "Horizon")

Tucker also forced Phlox to watch The Exorcist, which may have been on a movie night. (ENT: "Doctor's Orders")

Movie night was put on hold after Enterprise entered the Delphic Expanse. During a nightmare experienced by T'Pol, the crew was watching Appointment with Danger at movie night. (ENT: "Impulse") By early January 2154 movie night was again regularly held. (ENT: "Hatchery")

Shortly thereafter, when Phlox was running Enterprise as the rest of the crew was in stasis due to a transdimensional disturbance, he watched The Court Jester alone for movie night. (ENT: "Doctor's Orders")

By mid-2154, movie night had been put on hold again, though Tucker made another attempt to revitalize it. (ENT: "Daedalus")

Although some of the movies seen on movie night were produced by Paramount Pictures, The Day the Earth Stood Still was produced by 20th Century Fox; Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein, Son of Frankenstein, and Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein were produced by Universal Pictures; and The Exorcist was produced by Warner Bros. Pictures.

Discovery[]

Organizing a movie night for the crew of the USS Discovery was on Sylvia Tilly's to-do list in 2257. (DIS: "New Eden")

In 3189, the USS Discovery's computer suggested several silent films with Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton to Captain Saru when he was attempting to find ways to help the crew. Following Commander Burnham's away mission to Trill, the crew was assembled in the shuttle bay. There, the crew watched Sherlock Jr..(DIS: "Forget Me Not", "Terra Firma, Part 1")
