Mucilaginous compound was a mucus-like substance secreted by the macrovirus encountered by Voyager. The compound was generated by the virus in large quantities and used to infect new hosts. It was transferred to the victim by a large stinger, or bite-mechanism, on the virus. When the virus reached its largest stage the compound could be projected in a stream from the stinger.
