The Enterprise in orbit of Mudd

Mudd is a Class K planet that, by the year 2364, lay in a region of space in or near the United Federation of Planets. (TNG: "Conspiracy")

Stumbled upon in 2267 by the fugitive Harcourt "Harry" Mudd, the planet was located in a then previously uncharted star system. The planet was inhabited by Androids - the last survivors of a civilization from the Andromeda Galaxy - who dubbed Mudd "Lord" and held him against his will.

In 2268, "Lord" Mudd sent the android Norman to hijack the Federation starship Enterprise, in the hopes of trading the crew of that ship for his own freedom. Ultimately unsuccessful, Mudd was left on the planet by Captain James T. Kirk. (TOS: "I, Mudd")

Mudd was mentioned as a small note on a very large star chart graphic created for TNG:"Conspiracy." It was the image behind the chair in the room where Dexter Remmick was killed. It appears to be located within an outlined block, which may indicate that it was surrounded or was even a part of Federation territory at the time.
For the 2006 "remastered" version of "I, Mudd", a new computer-generated version of Mudd was created to replace the stock footage used in so many TOS episodes. The new version depicted the planet with its own distinct ring-system.

Apocrypha

According to a non-canon source, The Worlds of the Federation, Mudd was the second planet orbiting a star named "UFC 257704," while in the Decipher roleplaying game sourcebook "Worlds," Mudd and Galor IV are one and the same.
