In 2367, the location of Mursasaki 312 was labeled on a tactical situation monitor in Captain Benjamin Maxwell's ready room on the USS Phoenix. (TNG: "The Wounded", okudagram)

In 2368, the location of Murasaki 312 was labeled on a tachyon detection grid on one of the viewscreens of the USS Enterprise-D bridge. (TNG: "Redemption II", okudagram remastered)

In 2366, in an alternate timeline, during the Federation-Klingon War, the location of Murasaki 312 was labeled on a tactical situation monitor in the ready room aboard the Enterprise-D. (TNG: "Yesterday's Enterprise", okudagram)

History

In 2267, this quasar ionized an entire sector, including four star systems. This quasar, and others like it, generated what was known as the Murasaki Effect.

Sensor readings from the Enterprise attempted to describe Murasaki 312:

Negative ionic concentration – 1.64e9×10⁹ meters
Radiation wavelength – 370 ångströms
Harmonics – upward along entire spectrum

Captain James T. Kirk of the USS Enterprise was under standing orders to investigate formations similar to Murasaki 312, consequently delaying the Enterprise from a medical supply mission to Makus III, and sending the shuttlecraft Galileo to survey the formation. (TOS: "The Galileo Seven")
