A neurogenic field is an energy field that affects a lifeform's brain functions. One was generated by a group of aliens to capture Voyager. The aliens could manipulate the Voyager crew's dreams by using a neurogenic field.
The field initially induces nightmarish dreams, but only when one is sleeping. After a while, the field causes one to lose consciousness and remain in a dream state for a significant period of time. The aliens would seize this opportunity to capture the target vessel while its crew was trapped in their dream "world". (VOY: "Waking Moments")
The Telepathic pitcher plant also made use of a neurogenic field. (VOY: "Shattered")
