Doctor Nichols was played by Alex Henteloff. He was plant manager in 1986 at Plexicorp in San Francisco. In exchange for use of his facilities to build walls for his whale tank, Scotty gave him the formula for transparent aluminum. Scotty thinks he could have been the one who invented it in the original timeline anyway.
