- Star Trek was sketchy about what was a particle field and what was an energy field. The wave/particle duality may suggest they are the same, however there was no "field theory" or set of rules for the writers on how to use them. Mostly they just made it up as they went along with whatever they needed for the plot. Most of the fields named after something that Star Trek had established as a particle are listed in Energy fields.
