Phaser bore is a 23rd century Starfleet tool, which utilizes a type of cutting beam, to bore through up to 20 meters of rock per minute.

Captain Kirk requested a phaser bore in his rescue attempt of Lieutenant Uhura from the Shore Leave Planet in 2269. The planet, however, erected an electronic shield preventing transport of the device to the surface. (TAS: "Once Upon a Planet")

The Phaser Drilling tool, as the Phaser bore is often called, was seen to drill a tunnel through several meters of rock in seconds. (VOY: "Once Upon a Time")

Back Ground

Due to its enlarged size and box emitter in Once Upon a Time, it is very probable that the Phaser bore has an enhanced power pack and easier to aim than a phaser pistol. Hypothetically, this could be used as a support weapon, very similar in role to a machine gun.
