A plasma eddy is a destructive and energetic phenomenon that can be found in neutronic storms. Venturing too close to a plasma eddy can be extremely dangerous, and even lead to the destruction of one's ship.
In 2152, while inside a neutronic storm, the Enterprise NX-01 set a course for a cluster of plasma eddies in an attempt to persuade members of the Takret Militia, who had taken control of Enterprise, to leave the ship. (ENT: "The Catwalk")
