A polaric discharge, or polaric burst, was an intensely powerful side effect of a diamagnetic storm, capable of interfering with spacecraft operations, and which could be extremely dangerous to humanoid life.
In 2152, Enterprise NX-01 officers Charles Tucker and Hoshi Sato encountered a diamagnetic storm on the surface of a planet, which produced intense polaric discharges, negating their ability to return to the ship aboard their shuttlepod. As the polarized hull plating of their shuttlepod would have most likely attracted a polaric discharge, the two were forced to rely on the transporter to return to the ship. (ENT: "Vanishing Point")
