The location of Beta Geminorum and Pollux IV, a sister planet of Pollux V, on "The Explored Galaxy" wall chart

Pollux V was an uninhabited planet. It was the fifth planet in the Beta Geminorum planetary system. This system was located in the Mutara sector, which was a region of space in the Alpha Quadrant.

Like all other planets in this system, save for Pollux IV, the planet bore no signs of life, which was considered "strange" when the planet was examined by the USS Enterprise in 2267. The planet was approximately four billion years old. (TOS: "Who Mourns for Adonais?")

Background

"The Explored Galaxy"

"The Explored Galaxy" was a map of charted space in the Alpha Quadrant. Pollux IV, a sister planet, was located between the Tholian Assembly and Romulus. Both locations were identified in DS9: "The Search, Part II", "Call to Arms" as being located in this quadrant. This chart was also seen in several Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episodes set in the 24th century, from the year 2364 to 2370. These were TNG: "Conspiracy", "The Measure Of A Man", "The Emissary", "The Mind's Eye", "The Game", and DS9: "In the Hands of the Prophets", "Cardassians" The chart treats Beta Geminorum as a separate system from Pollux. Both systems share the same region of space.

Apocrypha

Pollux V was featured in the video game Star Trek: 25th Anniversary. Pollux V became the site of the Federation Nikolasi (Nikolasi at Memory Beta, the wiki for licensed Star Trek works) colony established by followers of the Acolytes of the Stars (Acolytes of the Stars at Memory Beta, the wiki for licensed Star Trek works) religion. In 2268, the Enterprise was called to the Pollux system when the colonists began to encounter "demons". The demons turned out to be robots created by an automated defense system, taking the form of the worst fear of the intruder. The Enterprise crew discovered members of the native species of the planet, an insectoid race called the Nauians. (Nauian at Memory Beta, the wiki for licensed Star Trek works) They had remained underground in suspended animation for millennia. After the first contact, Nauians applied for Federation membership.
