A star chart depicting the location of Procyon

Procyon (also Alpha Canis Minoris) was a star system consisting of binary companion stars, Procyon A and Procyon B, located about 11.4 light years from Sol.

Procyon was most notable for the fact that in an alternate future, the battle where the Sphere Builders were defeated was fought here in the 26th century. (ENT: "Azati Prime")

On several occasions in 2364, viewscreen readouts aboard the USS Enterprise-D showed the location of the A and B Procyon stars, in the form of a star chart from the Enterprise library computer. (TNG: "The Naked Now", "Code of Honor", "The Last Outpost", "Conspiracy")

The Procyon system

  • Procyon A (primary)
  • Procyon B (secondary)
    • Procyon I
    • Procyon II
    • Procyon III
    • Procyon IV
    • Procyon V

Background

The Enterprise-D computer's star chart was a drawing by Rick Sternbach that had originally been published, years earlier, on page 77 of the non-canon reference book Spaceflight Chronology. This chart showed Earth commercial and exploration routes after the use of warp drive began. Procyon A and B were not destinations on any of the routes.

According to the Star Trek: Star Charts,

  • Page 19: Procyon was located in the Andorian Sector (Sector 006). The system consisted of a primary F-type main-sequence star and a secondary A-type main-sequence star. This was the sixth sector to be explored by Earth ships.
  • Page 45: Procyon was identified as Andoria's system. The alternate names for this system were Andoria and Alpha Canis Minoris. This system was a stop on the Earth trade routes and became a Federation system in the 22nd century. Procyon was located in the Beta Quadrant.
  • Page 60: Zefram Cochrane visited this system on his final voyage in 2020.

Procyon was a real system in the Canis Minor constellation. Modern scientists have determined Procyon A was a sub-giant (spectral class F5 IV-V) star, whereas Procyon B was a white dwarf that orbited it at sixteen astronomical units.
