The Qomar are a humanoid species native to the Delta Quadrant, they are known for their xenophobic and arrogant attitude.
The Qomar homeworld, center of the Qomar Planetary Alliance, is run by a "Prelate."
Physiologically, they are quite similar to Humans except for a ridged protrusion that passes from the top of their nose to their the top of their forehead. Their height is also shorter then that of the average humanoid. Their vocal chords are capable of speech like many species, however they are incapable of allowing a Qomar to sing.
The Qomar are a species of mathematicians, and believe everything has a complex equation behind its existence. A common cultural point is that people are regarded higher for the number of decimal places they can calculate pi in their head.
A common pet among Qomar is a animal similar to an Earth dog.
Qomar vocal chords cannot produce musical tones; as such, their species had never heard anything like music (also attributable to their xenophobic nature). But in 2376, while a Qomar transport was returning to their system, the USS Voyager's primitive scanning beam damaged their propulsion systems, and they were brought aboard for medical treatment. While in sickbay, the Doctor, the ship's holographic Chief Medical Officer, hummed a Human tune. This fascinated the Qomar, and they relayed the information to Prelate Koru.
After an initial concert aboard Voyager and another on the planet, the Doctor became a pop icon.
Technology
Technologically, the Qomar regard themselves as one of the more advanced of species. Their ships are so powerful they simply disregard the inferior races they come across; this is why the less advanced starship Voyager's scanning beam was able to damage one of their vessels.
There are four classes of Qomar starships, many of which stay within their system and in orbit of their planet. There are also several Qomar starbases orbiting the planet.
Their holographic technology is far more advanced than that of the Federation as of 2376; they found programs such as the Emergency Medical Hologram extremely difficult to even work with. (VOY: "Virtuoso")
- The Qomar PADD (seen when Tincoo gives the Doctor her own musical composition) was later modified to appear as the Quarren PADD in VOY: "Workforce, Part I" and "Part II".
