Quantum singularity lifeforms are an alien species that caused a rupture in time.
In 2369 these lifeforms caused the USS Enterprise-D and a Romulan warbird to freeze in time. One of the aliens would attack La Forge almost killing him. The Alien would explain that a nest of their young had been mistakenly placed in the engine of the warbird, causing engine failure. When the Enterprise, responding to a distress call, attempted an energy transfer, it caused time to be disrupted. The alien would then disappear.
