Surak suffering from radiation sickness

Radiation poisoning (or radiation sickness) is a form of organic tissue damage caused by excessive exposure to ionizing radiation. Symptoms vary with the severity of exposure but often include fatigue, nausea, vomiting, and hair loss. Radiation may cause sterility and cancer, and given a large enough dose, it can be lethal. Its effects can be countered for a short time with hyronalin, though adrenaline was once a treatment as well. Extreme cases of theta radiation poisoning can be treated with arithrazine. (VOY: "The Omega Directive") By the 24th century, cellular damage by radiation could be prevented by taking special inoculations. Radiation poisoning can also lower calcium levels.

The Vulcan Surak suffered from radiation sickness and finally died as a result of the use of atomic bombs on Mount Seleya in the final war on Vulcan. (ENT: "Awakening")

In 2371, Chief Miles O'Brien received a mild dose of radiation poisoning from a ruptured plasma conduit. (DS9: "Visionary")

If a Humanoid or a Changeling was bombarded with radiation from a polaron emitter more than once, they would die of radiation poisoning. (DS9: "Apocalypse Rising")
