Ranjen monks were a rank within the Bajoran religious system, falling between prylars and vedeks. The role of ranjen varied from advisors to sermonizers, and were often seen serving the Kai. (DS9: "Covenant", "'Til Death Do Us Part")

A cut scene from "Strange Bedfellows" also mentioned Ranjen Surfan, who had a wife.
