AT: "xx" Template:Sidebar character Captain Richard Robau was a 23rd century Starfleet officer who served as the commanding officer of the USS Kelvin in 2233. His first officer was George Kirk, father of James T. Kirk.

Alternate reality

In an alternate reality, the Kelvin encountered a massive disturbance near the Klingon border, a black hole described as a "lightning storm in space". The Narada, a Romulan mining vessel from the future, emerged from the black hole and immediately opened fire on the Federation starship. After inflicting heavy damage on the Kelvin, the Narada's captain, Nero, requested that Robau take a shuttlecraft to their ship. Before departing, Robau handed command to George Kirk, and ordered him to begin an evacuation of the crew using all remaining shuttles, and to set the Kelvin on a collision course with the Narada via the autopilot.

Upon arrival on the Narada, Robau was brought before Nero and questioned by Nero's first officer, Ayel, regarding the location of Ambassador Spock and his vessel, the Jellyfish. As Robau had no knowledge of either, Ayel asked him for the current stardate, and Robau informed him that it was stardate "2233-zero-four". Nero, angered by the realization that the Narada had traveled 154 years into the past, killed Robau with the teral'n weapon in his possession. The termination of Robau's life signs registered aboard the Kelvin, restarting the battle between the two vessels. (Star Trek)

Background

Richard Robau was portrayed by Faran Tahir. His first name comes from official production material, including his dossier profile on the official movie site, although the novelization gives his name as "Pierre Robau." A display monitoring his life signs in the film displays the name "Capt. R. Robau".

According to his profile on Intel's Starfleet Shipyard site, Robau was born in Sagua La Grande, Cuba, and his Starfleet Service Number is SA-476-2549-CM.

Robau was named after the Cuban-born uncle of Star Trek co-writer and executive producer Roberto Orci. [1] According to Orci, he had imagined Robau being born in Cuba and raised in the Middle East. [2]
