Romeo and Juliet was a tragedy written by Human poet William Shakespeare in the late 16th century.
In 2154, Commander Tucker referenced the play when speaking to T'Pol about their personal relationship: "It's not like we would have made an ideal couple. A Vulcan and a Human? Romeo and Juliet probably stood a better chance." (ENT: "The Augments")
In 2155, John Frederick Paxton referred to them as Romeo and Juliet when Tucker considered making an attempt to rescue her. (ENT: "Demons")
In 2266, Leonard McCoy referred to Lenore Karidian as Juliet when Spock questioned the logic of James T. Kirk's inviting the Karidian Company of Players aboard the USS Enterprise, suggesting that there was no logic involved and Kirk might simply be interested in Lenore. In 2268, Captain Kirk quoted the lines from Romeo and Juliet to the Kelvan Kelinda: "What's in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet.", lamenting on the similarity between the carbon-based flowers and the growing colorful crystals of the Kelvans' home planet. In 2368, Counselor Deanna Troi used an image from Romeo and Juliet to help her crewmembers understand the particularities of the Tamarian language. For someone not versed in Shakespeare's play, the sentence "Juliet. On her balcony." would not be understood as an image of romance, just as "Darmok and Jalad at Tanagra" was indecipherable for someone not fully mastering the Tamarian language. (TNG: "Darmok")
In 2374, Odo compared himself to Romeo during his interactions with Lola Chrystal in the holosuite, saying that although he was able to romance her, he was sure he'd become Nanook of the North again (lose his suave manner) when he interacted with Kira Nerys, his secret crush. (DS9: "His Way")
