The class of shuttlecraft that shuttle SD-103 belonged to was used by Starfleet and the Federation in the 23rd and 24th centuries. This shuttle was known to be used for orbital personnel transport.
SD-103 was in use by the Federation in 2293, but a later shuttlef this type was in Starfleet use, assigned to the USS Farragut. (Star Trek: Generations)
- The purpose of the SD-103 shuttle was specified the script of Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, its first appearance. During the interim between those productions, the model was altered to appear as the Sydney-class on TNG and DS9.
