The San Francisco Herald was a periodical newspaper established during the mid-19th century in San Francisco, California.
Jean-Luc Picard, as Dixon Hill, bought a copy of a 1941 edition of the Herald, where he read about such period individuals as Adolf Hitler, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and Joe DiMaggio, as well as the death of a holo-character, Jessica Bradley. (TNG: "The Big Goodbye")
The San Francisco Herald was a fictional newspaper. It is unknown if such a paper existed in the Star Trek universe, or it was just made up for the holonovel.
In 1998, eleven years after the episode was filmed, a real newspaper was founded under the same name.
