Saul was a Human Augment, the result of 20th century genetic engineering, who was brought to life by Arik Soong in 2134. In his embryonic state, Saul was placed next to Lokesh in the stasis chamber of Cold Station 12 until they and seventeen others were taken, incubated, and raised by Soong on Trialas IV.

While growing up, Saul and his "brothers" and "sisters" participated in classroom-like lectures taught by Soong, whom Saul and the others called "father". When Soong was captured for stealing the embryos in 2144, Saul and the other Augment children were left to survive on their own. (ENT: "Borderland", "Cold Station 12")

Ten years later, Saul assisted his "brother" Malik in the capture of a Klingon Bird-of-Prey and the murder of its Klingon crewmembers. He later aided Malik in rising against their leader, Raakin, whom Malik also killed. (ENT: "Borderland")

Saul and the other Augments later boarded Enterprise NX-01 to free Soong from the ship's brig. Saul was shot with a particle rifle during the assault, but was not injured and continued with the rescue mission, which was a success. With Soong leading the Augments, Saul participated in a takeover of Cold Station 12 to retrieve over 1,800 additional Augment embryos remaining in the station's stasis chamber. (ENT: "Borderland", "Cold Station 12")

Saul was on the bridge of the Klingon Bird-of-Prey when the Augments, led by Malik, attempted to infect a Klingon colony with pathogens stolen from Cold Station 12. Enterprise arrived in time to prevent the release of the pathogens, and was subsequently attacked by the Augments. Saul was severely injured when Enterprise retaliated, disabling the Klingon vessel's power grid and rendering it defenseless. Any possibility that Saul survived following the attack was nullified when Malik initiated the Bird-of-Prey's self-destruct sequence, destroying the ship and the remaining Augments. (ENT: "The Augments")

Saul was played by stunt actor Fernando Chien. He received no credit for this role.
In the final draft script of "Borderland", Saul (in common with Malik) was initially described as being in his twenties, "strikingly handsome, with [a] toned physique," despite being "average in height."
