The Saurians were a species of intelligent lizards. By the mid-2270s, Saurians were serving in Starfleet.

In 1980, Mego released a 3¾" Saurian action figure as part of its second series; the company inadvertently called it a Rigellian. [1]
In an article appearing in the January 2002 edition of Star Trek: The Magazine (Volume 2, Issue 9), entitled "Who is that Alien?", the following information from Robert Fletcher's original background notes added:
"These were a lizard-like people who were very intelligent and made excellent officers. They had the unusual ability to breathe several different gases, which made them useful members of landing parties. They were also very strong and had four hearts."
