Before the unit is able to transport off the ship, [[Harry Kim]] discovered that a stand-down order was issued by the weapon's creators. The unit aboard ''Voyager'' is unable to convince the other weapons of this, so it transported iself into space where it self-destructs, destroying itself and the other weapons.

Warhead torpedo

A series-5 Long-range Tactical Armor Unit

The Series-5 Long-range Tactical Armor Unit is a highly advanced torpedo designed by the Druoda, a Delta Quadrant species; at just over one meter long, the torpedo was a weapon designed for mass destruction. Its explosive yield consists of a highly focused anti-matter explosion with a blast radius of 200 kilometers.

The armor unit is powered by a condensed energy matrix, which alone can power a fleet of starships. Instead of a standard computer core, there is an class-11 onboard artificial intelligence which uses bio-neural circuitry to mimic humanoid synaptic functions. The intelligence programmed to take every measure necessary to ensure that it reaches its target. When separated from its explosive components and reprogrammed, it can be used to regulate a planet's weather grid or terraforming purposes.

The weapon is warp-capable and has a maximum range of eighty light-year, and is protected by parametric shielding. Its sensors are able to detect its position and when its systems are being tampered with. The torpedo is programmed with a targeting threshold of two light-years, meaning that when it is within two light-years of its target it cannot disarmed or diverted — not even with the correct command codes. However, the detonation sequence can be stopped by routing a electromagnetic pulse through its power matrix.

In day-to-day operations, these torpedoes are controlled by the Druoda Strategic Command Matrix. Commands to launch or abort missions are sent to the torpedoes through the Matrix.

One of these weapons was found by the USS Voyager while answering a distress call emitted by the torpedo in 2375. The weapon's bio-neural circuitry was malfunctioning and it believed itself to be organic being, claiming it could not remember what its mission was. After the ship's holographic Doctor beamed it to sickbay, the device supressed the Doctor's programming and took control of his holomatrix. It then revealed its purpose and demanded that Captain Kathryn Janeway take it to its target or it would destroy Voyager.

After unsuccessful attempts to deactivate the warhead, Ensign Harry Kim discovered that the warhead was one of a small contingent that had, in fact, been ordered to stand-down by the Strategic Control Matrix. After successfully convincing the weapon's AI of the validity of its orders, Voyager released the weapon whereafter it detonated itself amongs the remainder of the malfunctioning warheads, destroying them all.
