Shalaft's syndrome is a very rare Terran illness. It is a genetically transmitted syndrome which is known to cause a hyper-sensitivity to sound.
In 2379, Praetor Shinzon informed Jean-Luc Picard that he had been diagnosed with the condition in his youth. This information allowed Picard, who had a regressive strain of the disease, to discover that Shinzon was his clone. (Star Trek: Nemesis)
