The Tunguska Event was an explosive occurance in 1908 in Russia. The cause of which is unknown, although some think it was caused by a meteor.

Hikaru Sulu refered to the Tunguska Event in 2268, in which he supports the theory that the explosion was caused by a meteor. (TOS: "That Which Survives")
