Strange New Worlds was an annual publication of short stories written by fans and amateur writers, chosen from a writing contest. Spanning the entire Trek universe, each book included a selection of stories for all of the live-action television series: TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY, and (as of 2002) ENT.

Writing contest

The contest was held each year by Pocket Books and there were cash prizes. The next year's contest was announced in each book and could be found at the website of Pocket's parent company, Simon & Schuster. [1]

Submissions were open only to residents of the United States and Canada (excluding Quebec) over the age of 18 who were not professional writers. The stories had to be original and not formally published elsewhere, and their main characters had to be established Star Trek characters (major or minor).

In January 2007, it was announced that with Strange New Worlds 10, Pocket Books would be discontinuing the publication of Strange New Worlds.
