Strange New Worlds is an annual publication of short stories written by fans and amateur writers, chosen from a writing contest. Spanning the entire Trek universe, each book includes a selection of stories for all 5 of the TV series: TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY, ENT.

Writing Contest
The contest is held by Pocket Books and there are cash prizes. The next year's contest is announced in each book and can be found at the Simon & Schuster (Pocket's parent company) website. [1]
It is open only to U.S. and Canadian residents over the age of 18 and cannot be professional writers. The stories must be original and not formally published elsewhere. Main characters must be established Star Trek characters (major or minor).
