Franklin Mint Star Trek Chess Set — Packaging

The Star Trek Commemorative Chess Set was produced by The Franklin Mint for Star Trek's 25th anniversary in 1991. This was a standard chess set with TOS-themed pieces:

Gold pieces

King: Captain James T. Kirk
Queen: Lt. Uhura
Bishops: Commander Spock and Dr. Leonard McCoy
Knights: Lt. Cmdr. Montgomery Scott and Lt. Hikaru Sulu
Rooks: The USS Enterprise
Pawns: Starfleet security officers

Silver pieces

King: Khan Noonien Singh
Queen: The Romulan commander from "The Enterprise Incident"
Bishops: A Vian and the Gorgan
Knights: Romulan officer and Gorn commander
Rooks: Klingon D7-class cruiser
Pawns: Klingon foot soldiers

The pieces were produced in pewter, plated in either 24-karat gold or sterling silver and placed on crystal hexagonal bases. The board doubled as the storage case for the pieces.

The Franklin Mint also produced a matching Star Trek Commemorative Checker Set.
