The Starfleet Medal of Commendation is a medal given to people after doing something heroic.

In 2376 Captain Janeway awarded the Doctor the Starfleet Medal of Commendation for his part in repelling raiders who wanted to strip Voyager of essential components. (VOY: "Tinker, Tenor, Doctor, Spy")
