He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh with a BFA in Graphic Communications. After ten years as a corporate graphic designer and illustrator, he became a freelance illustrator. He lives in the city of Appleton, Wisconsin with his wife Jill and three sons.

He was first nominated for an Emmy Award, along with the rest of the make-up department, for Outstanding Make-up for a Series (prosthetic) for the episode ENT: "Canamar".

He won an Emmy Award in 2009 for Outstanding Make-up in a Single Camera Series (non-prosthetic) for his work on Pushing Daisies, which was shared with Todd McIntosh and David DeLeon. That same year, he was also nominated, with Michael White, for Best Make-up and Hair for the film Milk in the 2009 BAFTA awards.

Other shows and films he worked on included Willow, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, The Rock, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, Nash Bridges, and Shark.
