- You may also be looking for the Swarm species or the episode "The Swarm".
A swarm is a gathering of animals (usually insects) in one location. They can occur for many reasons, such as for defense if they feel threatened. The term can also be applied to a gathering of starships, other artificial objects or an astronomical event.
In 2268, Nilz Baris described the twelve Klingons who came aboard Deep Space K-7 as a swarm, although Captain Kirk did not believe "that twelve Klingons constitutes a swarm". (TOS: "The Trouble with Tribbles"; DS9: "Trials and Tribble-ations")
In 2370, Natima Lang claimed her Cardassian shuttle had been caught in a meteor swarm, but the damage had actually been caused by weapons fire. (DS9: "Profit and Loss")
In a pagh'tem'far experienced by Benjamin Sisko in 2373, he saw a swarm of locusts in the skies above Bajor. (DS9: "Rapture")
Jadzia Dax and Miles O'Brien programmed the self-replicating mines to swarm detonate if a ship approached them. (DS9: "Call to Arms")
