Switzerland was a nation-state on the European continent of Earth. Switzerland's flag was red with a white cross. (ENT: "First Flight")

When Data had traveled back to 1893 and claimed to be a Frenchman, Samuel Clemens wrongly remembered him to be from Switzerland. (TNG: "Time's Arrow, Part II")

As Clemens did not believe Data, it is possible he intentionally misremembered to test Data's backstory.

According to the Star Trek Fact Files, Switzerland would go on to become a member of the International Space Agency in the early 21st century.
