Background

TPlana-Hath production drawing

An more curvy early design sketch by John Eaves.

The name of the Vulcan vessel (or class) in Star Trek: First Contact does not come from the movie itself, but rather backstage sources.

There is some discrepancy as to whether it was a lander from a larger ship or an independent warp vessel; in the novelization, Zefram Cochrane mentioned the "Captain" of the T'Plana-Hath had an even larger vessel in orbit. John Eaves, however, intended the ship seen in the film to be a warp-ship.

While designing the T'Plana-Hath, John Eaves, the chief designer, wanted something with a "spinning" element, after the vulcan courier from Star Trek: The Motion Picture, so he designed the legs to fold into the thruster packs, and as the ship landed they would fold out, spinning on their way down.
