I believe it's likely that a large portion of the Amargosa star was totally destroyed/converted into energy. If it had collapsed into a neutron star or black hole after the trilithium bomb went off, then it would have retained the same mass. The fact that the USS Bozeman had to change course, and the Nexus' course was shifted towards the Veridian system, indicates that the star's mass--and thus, gravitational influence--was seriously altered.
