I don't think it's entirely accurate to say that slavery and oppression were brought to an end by the Civil War. It went a long way towards doing so, but neither were brought to a definitive end by the resolution of the war. I think it's more accurate to say that the Civil War helped to bring about the end of slavery and oppression on Earth by the time the events in the Star Trek took place.

- No, it wouldn't. The Civil War is referenced and described in Star Trek, therefore we need an article on it written from that point of view. If you are looking for a real world point of view on the Civil War, go to the wikipedia. That is what they are there for. We are here for Star Trek. Real world points of view are used here to discuss actor's, writer's, stuff like that, not real world events from history.
