- Well, Centauri is a constellation.. which means that the primary star in such would be designated Alpha. I'm not sure of the exact astronomical naming precedent in play here though, but i believe that would explain the relationship better. -- Captain Mike K. Bartel 11:45, 1 Dec 2004 (CET)
- I'm not sure we're talking about the same thing here right now. What I mean is that, since Centauri (Centaurus to be exact) refers to a whole group of stars, how can we be sure that the planet called Centauri VII orbits the star called Alpha Centauri. Why not Beta, Gamma or Delta Centauri, or even a completely different star in that region of space that just happened to be called Centauri? -- Cid Highwind 12:07, 1 Dec 2004 (CET)
- Well, the precedent I believe I am suggesting is that of Alpha Centauri, Beta Centauri and Gamma Centauri, the only one that would be allowed to drop its ranking and be called the base name "Centauri system" would be the first of the group, which is always the Alpha of a constellation. There really is not any evidence of it being Alpha Centauri, it is not the first Constellation to be named as a star system, we have Ophiuchus III, Cestus III, Cygni, and Taurus II. To try to pin it to any real star is fool hardy. I believe there are some new naming logic that they use. Like Sigmi Iotia, (both Greek letters), for stars not charted from Earth. --TOSrules 21:42, Dec 1, 2004 (CET)
I was just reading the article, and it assumes that Flint was Taranullus. It uses that to suggest that it is a Federation Colony. remember Flint knew the greatest minds in history, meaning this could be an inhabited and not a colony. --TOSrules 23:06, Dec 1, 2004 (CET)
