Medical practitioner?Edit

This is a tough one. Louis Pasteur was NOT a medical practitioner - see Wikipedia for instance - but he was referred to as a doctor in Star Trek. In fact, Pasteur was a chemist and was also one of the founders of modern microbiology. How should this be handled? --70.72.18.246 05:33, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

It should be handled by whatever is stated in canon, not real life. --OuroborosCobra talk 05:37, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

Removed Edit

Although it was stated in many episodes, including "Distant Voices", that Louis Pasteur was a physician, he was in fact a chemist and microbiologist who was for a short time also a professor of physics. He did not have and never claimed to have a medical degree.

Pasteur is mentioned in two episodes - three, if you count the deleted scene from "Distant Voices". None of these references identify him as a doctor.

  • In the first known mention, from "What Are Little Girls Made of?", there is a connection made between Pasteur's work in vaccines and Korby's translations of medical records which led to advances in immunization techniques in the 23rd century.
  • In the second known mention, from "Fury", the EMH Doctor is choosing a name for himself. He is choosing names of people who made advances in medicine.
  • In the third known mention, from "Distant Voices", it is mentioned that Pasteur had a house in Paris.

In all three instances, there never was a Dr. before his name.Lakenheath72 (talk) 19:44, March 21, 2015 (UTC)
