Duplicated text[]

the text placed here by the originator duplicated text found at http://www.starfleetarchive.com/ships/?ID=1340 . I altered the writing to reflect the format we use for ship entries in this wiki and to avoid copyright issues. The preceding unsigned comment was added by Captainmike (talkcontribs).

Removed fanon[]

I removed the following fanon info, that was incorrectly in an apocrypha section:

  • The Kongo featured prominently in the fan film production of Starship Exeter, Episode 2,"The Tressaurian Intersection" where the crew of the USS Exeter (NCC-1672) (here as NCC-1706 as per Joseph's Technical Manual) finds the saucer section of the Kongo (here NCC-1710, again as per Joseph's Manual) crashed on Corinth IV. Later on they find the stardrive section adrift in space which they are forced to destroy in order to prevent the ship falling into enemy hands.

Fan fiction has no place in any in-universe articles - see the MA canon policy.– Cleanse ( talk | contribs ) 00:57, April 10, 2010 (UTC)

Granted, but can it be admitted as background info?--Sennim 06:22, April 17, 2010 (UTC)
No. Then we'd have to but bgnotes on every fan fiction that included anything... — Morder (talk) 06:36, April 17, 2010 (UTC)

Granted, albeit a bit reluctantly--Sennim 07:26, April 17, 2010 (UTC)

POV musings[]

It might be that I kick open an open door, so if I'm wrong in my assessment, by all means set me straight. Is the in-universe POV the correct one? When I was copy-editing, the notion struck me that the USS Kongo has never shown up in canon, not even on page four of the mission charts as conceded in the BG-section, as that was apparently not included in the DC DVD. Would a production POV, categorized under "Unused production material" not be the more applicable one?--Sennim (talk) 13:23, March 3, 2017 (UTC)

The USS Kongo was mentioned in a graphic seen on the bridge of the Enterprise-A. Here is a thread from Flare with accompanying pictures which is relevant to this discussion. http://flare.solareclipse.net/ultimatebb.php/topic/6/2819.html--Memphis77 (talk) 21:59, March 3, 2017 (UTC)

Ah, there are those "fleet status charts I did elsewhere on the USS Enterprise-A" Mike Okuda was talking about...that settles the matter, excellent catch!--Sennim (talk) 11:44, March 4, 2017 (UTC)

Removed[]

Some sources have erroneously stated that the ship's name was based on a mis-spelling or an alternate spelling of "Congo", the African Republic. This spelling has appeared in novels and short stories, but it is not always clear whether it's a reference to the Kongo or a different ship. {{incite}}

'"Some sources" <which?> have "erroneously stated" <according to who?>.... there's a lot wrong with this vague statement. --Alan (talk) 12:08, July 24, 2020 (UTC)

Having served on[]

It's my understanding that a remembrance pin is worn in honor of those who/someone who died on a ship, not necessarily for a ship the person served on. If it were for ships you've served on, many cadets would never have served on another ship.
