Tarod IX was an uninhabited planet. It was the ninth planet in the Tarod planetary star system. This system was located in Sector 30. The planet was affiliated with the United Federation of Planets.
Prior to stardate 41986, a Federation outpost was established on this planet.
In 2364, the USS Enterprise-D's second stop on its tour of the destroyed outposts in Sector 30 was at this planet.
Near this system, on its passage to the next destroyed outpost, the Enterprise-D made contact with a D'deridex-class warbird. (TNG: "The Neutral Zone")
It was later determined that the outpost had been attacked by the Borg. (TNG: "Q Who")
Tarod IX was located in Sector 30 (Tarod Sector). Tarod system was a binary system. Tarod A was a K class star with a magnitude of -1, which was 100 times brighter than Sol. Tarod B in this system was a M class star. (Star Trek: Star Charts, page 66)
