Tau was the leader of a group of pirates who stole technology from the USS Voyager in 2374 including the Leonardo da Vinci hologram. Tau became Da Vinci's "patron" using the inventions of Da Vinci to sell to the highest bettor. (VOY: "Concerning Flight")
