Notice
"Fortune favors the bold" is an Earth proverb, translated into the English language from the Latin, audentes fortuna iuvat from Virgil's epic poem The Aeneid.
Prior to traveling back in time to the 20th century aboard the HMS Bounty, James T. Kirk cited a variation of this quote to himself, stating "May fortune favor the foolish," moments before giving the order to engage the slingshot effect. (Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home)
These words were the motto of Columbia, the second NX-class starship, and was used on that vessel's mission patch and dedication plaque. (ENT: "Home", "Affliction")
The saying was also cited by Benjamin Sisko when he launched his assault to recapture Deep Space 9 in early 2374. (DS9: "Favor the Bold")
